Devon Sea Safari from Teignmouth

Devon Sea Safari operates from the Fish Quay in Teignmouth, a short walk behind the New Quay Inn on the riverside. The business runs passenger trips on a purpose-built 10-metre Humber RIB named Whistler, an MCA-coded commercial vessel with capacity for 12 passengers. Tours leave the historic port and head out along the South Devon coastline.

Three main options are offered. The one-hour Labrador Bay Coastal Adventure follows the sandstone cliffs towards Babbacombe. The 1.5-hour Labrador Bay Wildlife Tour takes in coastal islands and the prehistoric caves of the bay. The two-hour Marine Wildlife Sea Safari focuses on longer periods looking for seals, dolphins, seabirds and other marine life while covering more of the coast. All trips include commentary on the geology of the cliffs and the history of the area.

The boat is operated by local skipper and wildlife guide Rob Hughes, who established the business in 2018. Trips are informative rather than high-speed thrill rides, though the open RIB gives a closer sense of the water and coastline than larger vessels. Wildlife sightings vary with season and conditions, but common encounters include seals, dolphins and a range of seabirds such as gannets, fulmars and cormorants. The tours are suitable for mixed ages, with minimum age guidelines of four for the shorter trips and eight for the two-hour safari.

Sailings run Tuesday to Sunday, weather permitting, through the main season from spring into autumn. Advanced booking is recommended, particularly at weekends and during school holidays. Private charters are also available.

There are no facilities on board, so visitors should dress for the conditions and bring any food or drink they need.
