Gallery 8
Gallery 8 sits at 43 Teign Street in Teignmouth’s Arts Quarter, a short walk back from the river beach and the main shopping streets. It is an art and gift shop rather than a formal white-wall gallery: shelves and walls are given over to handmade work by local artists and makers, with the stock changing as pieces sell.
A distinctive part of the arrangement is that the gallery does not take a commission on work sold. The money from a sale goes back to the artist. That is unusual in this kind of shop and is one reason so many local makers use it as an outlet.

The present premises are not the original rooms, but the name and the idea have continued. Dawn now runs the shop and shows her own work there alongside the other makers.
The shop is home to around 30 local artists and crafters. The mix typically includes paintings, prints, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, cards, and small handmade gifts. It is the sort of place people use for a one-off present as much as for a picture to take home. Summer opening is generally 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
Teign Street sits in the designated Arts Quarter, close to other independent shops, studios, and cafes. Scene & Heard, the long-established record shop, is on the same stretch. Visitors arriving from the seafront can walk down past the cafes and turn into Teign Street; the gallery is on the right coming from the quay end.
News, new work, and opening updates are posted on the Facebook page. Hours can shift outside the main summer season, so it is worth checking there before a special trip.
Gallery 8 is a working shop, not a visitor attraction with tickets or timed entry. You walk in, look around, and buy direct from the people who made the work.
