Proms in the Park 2026
Proms in the Park is a popular free community event organised by Teignmouth Town Council. It brings the spirit of the BBC Proms (especially the famous Last Night) to a relaxed outdoor setting in the town.
Date for 2026
Saturday 12 September 2026. The event typically runs in the evening, from around 5:30pm or 6pm until late (e.g., 10:30pm), aligning with the broadcast of the Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Location
Bitton Park, Teignmouth (a large, attractive green space near the town centre and seafront, with plenty of room for picnics and gatherings).
What to Expect
- Live screening of the Last Night of the Proms on a big screen in the park.
- A patriotic, fun atmosphere with classical favourites, rousing anthems (think Rule, Britannia!, Land of Hope and Glory, and Jerusalem), and plenty of flag-waving and singing along.
- Picnic-friendly — bring your own blankets, chairs, tables, picnic food and drink. Food and drink are often available to purchase on site as well.
- Community vibe: families, locals, and visitors gather under the (hopefully) stars for a celebratory evening of music.
- In previous years it has been described as an “exciting evening under the stars” with upgraded staging, sound, and lighting in some iterations.
The event is completely free to attend — no tickets required. It’s open to everyone and aims to be inclusive and family-oriented.
Weather Contingency
This is an outdoor event, so it’s weather-dependent. In 2025 the event was unfortunately cancelled at short notice due to heavy rain forecasts after consulting the Met Office. The council usually discusses backup plans (such as moving to an indoor venue like Bitton House) in their events committee meetings, but details for 2026 are still being finalised.
Practical Tips
- Arrive early to secure a good spot, especially if you want to be near the screen.
- Dress for the British September evening — layers, waterproofs, and warm blankets are sensible.
- Bring Union Jack flags, glow sticks, or anything festive if you want to join in the fun.
- Parking is available nearby, but it can get busy — walking or using public transport is recommended where possible.
- Toilets and basic facilities are provided in or near the park.
Recent council meetings (as of April 2026) have confirmed the date and noted that officers are providing updates on planning and budget. The Facebook pages of Teignmouth Town Council and Teignmouth Oracle regularly post about it with “further details to follow” as the summer progresses.
